When I purchased my infrared (IR) converted camera, I was naturally anxious to use it. Indoor photos were my first backdrop and, to my surprise, all photos had a magenta cast. I concluded "this camera must not work indoors.” The next day I used the camera outdoors to capture light contrast, shading, and texture of natural landscapes. To my disappointment, all outdoor photos also had the magenta cast showing. Baffled, I began to wonder if something went wrong with the conversion, or I had to set something for this new camera.

I called the company that did the conversion and explained the magenta cast. Their response was, “You need to set the White Balance against the grass on a sunny day.” Here I am in the middle of the winter, with everything around me covered with snow, and after spending $400 to convert my camera, I am not able to use it indoors and can’t even use it outdoors. Frustrated, I knew none of this made sense. I became convinced that there had to be a solution.

I should be able to buy a reference card, I thought to myself, the same way the 18% gray card is used on regular cameras. To my utter surprise, and after exhaustive research, I learned there was no IR reference card available in the marketplace. Green grass was the only reference option. After several months of trying out different ideas,
I developed the IR White Balance Card. Prototypes were sent to IR expert photographers eager to use my IR White Balance Card indoors and outdoors. Results and feedback were both excellent urging me to proceed with production and distribution of my IR White Balance Card.

I create each IR White Balance Card using the highest-quality, acid free materials. Each card comes in a convenient, easy-to-carry 4” x 6” size with a 2mil and a 4mil acid-free zip lock protection bags serving as a clear, sturdy, water-proof, and easy-to-carry-and-use wrapper. The IR White Balance Card has a border so you can use and store your Card easily and safely without touching the reference color.

The biggest benefit my IR White Balance Card brings you--photograph IR without any limitations: Indoors, outdoors, on sunny days, on cloudy days, in any season of the year, and with any object, backdrop, and landscape that draws you in.

Thank you for purchasing my IR White Balance Card!

Directions: Refer first to your camera’s user manual on how to set up the white balance. Photograph the reference card color inside the border. Do not include in the reference color the black border around the IR White Balance Card.
